Pasture‑Based Genetics That Perform in Japan

The LIC Europe team is proud to bring our very best genetic offerings to Japanese dairy farmers.

About us

LIC International, based at our New Zealand headquarters, works closely with valued global partners such as Surge Miyawaki in Japan to connect dairy farmers with the best of New Zealand’s pasture‑based genetics. Surge Miyawaki, founded in 1958, has a long history of supplying livestock solutions and importing agricultural technologies from New Zealand to support efficient, pasture‑based farming adapted to Japanese conditions.

Japan’s dairy industry is characterised by high standards, technical precision, and an increasing interest in efficient grazing and pasture‑based systems where conditions allow. In these systems, genetics that deliver fertility, feed efficiency, and robustness are essential to maximising performance while managing costs and land availability.

The first shipment of LIC semen was imported into Japan by Surge Miyawaki in 2011. Achieving this milestone required more than a decade of commitment, navigating complex regulatory and technical pathways to establish a reliable import system for New Zealand genetics. Since then, LIC genetics have been adopted by progressive Japanese dairy farmers focused on grazing and forage efficiency.

Today, LIC genetics are contributing to improved fertility, stronger feed conversion, and the development of cows better suited to pasture‑based systems in Japan. Developed in New Zealand’s grass‑driven environments, these genetics provide Japanese farmers with a proven option for building productive, efficient herds aligned with modern dairy goals.
