Pasture‑Based Genetics for Costa Rican Dairy Environments

The LIC International team is proud to bring our very best genetic offerings to Costa Rican dairy farmers.

About us

LIC International, based at our New Zealand headquarters, works alongside trusted global partners such as Genètica Chirripó S.A. in Costa Rica to connect local dairy farmers with the best of New Zealand’s pasture‑based genetics. This partnership commenced in 2022, supporting Costa Rican farmers seeking genetics proven in grass‑fed systems.

Genètica Chirripó S.A. is led by Managing Director Juan Arias, who has extensive firsthand experience with New Zealand dairy farming, having lived and worked in the country for several years. This strong understanding of New Zealand pasture‑based systems helps ensure LIC genetics are well aligned with Costa Rican farming conditions and production goals.

Costa Rica’s dairy industry operates within a tropical climate well suited to pasture‑based and forage‑driven production, particularly in higher‑altitude regions where grazing plays an important role in herd performance. In these systems, success depends on efficient feed utilisation, fertility, robustness, and cows capable of performing consistently on grass and locally grown forages.

Developed in environments where grass utilisation, fertility, and lifetime performance are critical, LIC genetics offer Costa Rican dairy farmers a reliable option for building productive, resilient herds that thrive in pasture‑based systems.
