About us
LIC International, based at our New Zealand headquarters, works closely with our global distributor network to support dairy farmers across Sub‑Saharan Africa. Together, we connect farmers with New Zealand pasture‑based genetics proven to perform, drive profit, and build resilience in grass‑ and forage‑based systems.
Dairy farming across Sub‑Saharan Africa is diverse, dynamic, and rapidly evolving. Farmers operate across a wide range of climates and production systems, often balancing pasture, forage, and locally available feed resources while working to improve productivity, herd health, and long‑term sustainability. In these environments, progress relies on resilient genetics and practical, locally relevant support that can deliver results under real farming conditions.
New Zealand genetics are developed in environments where efficiency, fertility, robustness, and adaptability are essential. These traits are highly relevant within Sub‑Saharan African dairy systems, where cows must perform reliably, maximise the use of available feed, and contribute positively to farm outcomes over their lifetime.
Our work across Sub‑Saharan Africa goes beyond genetics alone. LIC is committed to supporting farmers, strengthening herds, and helping build a more productive and sustainable dairy future, one system at a time. We are actively leading and contributing to several key initiatives, including Project aLIVE (Livestock Information Vision for Ethiopia), focused on improving data capture and utilisation to benefit the broader industry, and Project EDGE (Enhancing Dairy Genetics East Africa), which supports skills development, extension and training, including artificial insemination technician training, alongside supply‑chain optimisation. Our Precision Breeding project is focussed on the development of heat‑tolerant (SLICK), disease‑resistant animals specifically suited to Sub‑Saharan African conditions.
